For people who are new to driving but want to pass their test quickly or for those who have taken a driving test and failed before, crash course driving lessons could be the solution. Before you take a crash course though, it is advisable to take the theory test first, so that you can take the driving test at the end of the course, and if you pass, you can apply for your full driving licence without any further delay.

These intensive courses vary in length and depend on how experienced a driver you are. There are residential courses which are driving lessons that are close to your home. You will need to do some research to find out what is on offer in your area. You will also need to plan when you can do the course and take time off from work. Most schools need you to book at least 4 weeks in advance, especially for residential courses, but if you can be flexible when you do the course you might get a phone call telling you that you could begin the next week or even the next day if there are any cancellations.

Prices vary but remember that cheaper doesn't necessarily mean better and as with everything else you get what you pay for. You should look for a school that has a professional approach and will tailor courses to suit your needs. You should also expect to have individual tuition, although some schools will teach two or three friends or family members together. When you enquire about the prices, they might look horrendous but you need to consider how much you would pay for an hour a week's tuition over a 4 month period, which is the average length of time for someone to pass the driving test. You will normally be asked to pay a deposit upfront and then the remaining sum on your first day of tuition. Read the small print carefully to see if you will get a refund if you cannot, for any reason, take the course as planned.

Crash courses typically last for 5 to 8 days, depending on the number of hours tuition you receive each day. The first day will be tough as there will be a lot of information to absorb, but after that things get easier and you should feel enthusiastic about what you are learning to do. You will sit the test on the last day of the course, probably during the last hour. Your instructor should have taken you over the test route several times, so you will know what you can expect and there will be few surprises in store for you.

Remember that if you choose to go on a residential course you will have to pay for accommodation. This is not usually included in the price. Most schools will provide you with a list of places to stay and you will either have to book them yourself or the school will do it for you. Check out your options and always read the small print before taking a course and do some research to find the best course that suits you.
