All new drivers regardless of age are all eager to pass their test and start driving straight away. Before you can get your full UK driving licence, there are a few important things you must do to enable you to pass. You must complete the theory test and hazard perception test and you must be able to read a licence plate from a distance of 20 metres but most importantly you must be a confident driver to be able to pass.

The best way to learn is to have a good instructor that you feel confident with; they must be patient and understanding as well as having a good method of teaching. Not all learners are quick to learn the controls and skills of driving a vehicle but the more you practice, the better you will be.

How to pass the driving test?

Theory test - time and time again I see people reading and practicing theory test questions; it's useless unless you've been behind the wheel. When you learn how to drive, all the theory test questions start to make more sense. So don't waste time learning without having any driving lessons first.
Study aids - many people make the mistake of borrowing or handing down study aids to pass the test. Unless they are within a year old, they will be deemed useless. Questions and methods are constantly changing so it's worth investing in a new set of books and CDs to help pass faster.
Internet - the internet is always being updated with thousands of pages daily; you can even have practice theory test questions and hazard perception clips for free.
Mock practical tests - having as many as possible will maximise your chances of passing as examiners will not be as friendly or understanding as your driving instructor.
Private practice - if you have an understanding friend or family member, having additional lessons other than the ones with your instructor will improve your confidence and ability to take instruction. Make sure the car is insured for your use and the person supervising is over 21 with a driving licence that's been valid for the last 3 years.
Frequent lessons - although lessons are a bit expensive, by taking them weekly you will retain information better and not forget so easily. If it's possible try not to go a fortnight without lessons, otherwise you'll forget what you've learnt and take longer to pass.

The only way to pass is to take as many lessons as you can in a short period of time so it's always fresh in your mind. The more practice you have, the more familiar you will be with manoeuvres and instruction. Remember that everyone learns at a different pace, so what's easy for someone may not be easy for you and vice versa. The best thing you can do is to persevere and get it done with as soon as possible instead of postponing because you're having problems learning to drive. As a learner, you need to overcome your fears and try to motivate yourself to pass quickly, otherwise you'll be spending a lot of money to get your driving licence or may even end up not having one if you abandon too easily.
