There are so many games consoles to choose from nowadays whereas 10 years ago you were limited to only 2 or 3. On such advantage for younger people is playing driving games where they can see what it's like to drive. There are a few games that are not about driving at all but more about destruction, performing manoeuvres and hand eye co-ordination. As teenagers get older, they want to know how it feels like to be behind the wheel of the car. Unfortunately many do not have the finances to start taking lessons from the age of 17 so settle for in-simulation games that are similar to the ones you get at arcades.

Driving games are also a cheaper way of experiencing the fun of real driving; of course there are such games such as Gran Turismo and Need for Speed that are more for fun of racing than anything else but games such as Nascar gives you a chance to build up driving skills and learn how to check the car over for faults and problems.

Most driving games nowadays have optional pedals and steering wheel as an additional extra to those who really want to get into the game. As most teenagers have a games console, games can be lent to or borrowed off friends so there is no need to spend a fortune. Some shops that sell these games also offer to trade games in and get the value off a new game or exchange it for money.

Top 5

games With so many different consoles to choose from (PlayStation, Wii, Xbox, Nintendo DS and PSP), it's hard to name the best 5 games available at the moment as not all games are available to play on all consoles, so here is a general top 5 of the best games available:

  • Gran Turismo 5, RRP £49.99
  • Test drive unlimited 2, RRP £49.99
  • Forza Motorsport 3, RRP £49.99
  • Split/Second: Velocity, RRP £49.99
  • Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, RRP £49.99

As we know console games are more popular but there are also PC games that are still available and free online driving games to play on the Internet. PC games have been on the decline in recent years as most people prefer laptops to desktops and a desktop PC is easier to use to play games as you are sitting at a desk. Playing a driving game on a laptop is not as easy as it may fall because most people use laptops from the comfort of their sofa.

Playing driving games online is becoming very popular as they are free in most cases, sometimes you may have to pay a small fee to unlock more levels but even then, it does work out cheaper. Driving games whichever way you choose to play are a good pass time as you don't need to leave the house and you can cause as much destruction or gain experience from the comfort of your home. A small minority of teenagers are easily influenced by these games and will attempt to copy moves they have learnt whilst playing, so it's always wise to check the age certificate when buying driving games for a younger child.
