A lorry that is also a tractor and trailer at the same time is called an articulated lorry and is allowed to carry up to 44 tons. They are most commonly used as freight vehicles for large goods and also for transporting containers. The lorry is required to have 3 axles on both the tractor and the trailer with eight wheels on each. At the moment, articulated lorries are used for domestic and also international transport as it can support cargo shipmen that is also containerised.

There are now small companies that offer a session driving an articulated lorry in a controlled environment. Some men and even women have always wondered what it would be like to drive one so now's their chance. You don't need to have any experience driving a large vehicle as a normal driving licence is fine. The lorry will have been around for 16 years though. Why not buy a lesson as a present for someone who would like to do this for a living? If they don't like it then they wouldn't have wasted money as they just had a taster session. You can buy a taster lesson for as little as £200; don't worry as there will be a fully experienced driver by your side.

There are many different types of articulated lorries that are available nowadays. There are reefer, dry bulk, car hauler, flat bed trucks, lowboy, tanker and box trucks. Reefers are insulated trucks that deliver meat produce, dairy and other frozen foods. Box trucks however are used to move small goods from farms to local supermarkets and shops.

Articulated lorries are what keeps the commercial industry going; no shipping or manufacturing can be done without them. The construction industry has been very reliant on these lorries as it can carry construction materials effortlessly on flat bed articulated lorries. Without these lorries the construction industry would not have been as successful as it is now.
